Q: Is there a limit on the number of devices I can send?

A: As many as you want, up to the weight and size limit constraints for FedEx Ground shipping services! But even sending in just one old laptop or tablet is extremely helpful.

Q: What is the weight limit?

A: The maximum weight for FedEx Ground shipping services is 150 lbs. For larger shipments, contact us.

Q: What size box can I use?

A: Specifications: Each box must measure no more than 108 inches based on the following formula: (Length + 2x Width + 2x Height) is less than 108 inches (Length is the longest side). All boxes must meet the specifications for FedEx Ground shipping.

Q: How do package and mail my box?

A: Devices for Autism does NOT provide packaging materials, only the FedEx shipping labels. Please consider reusing an old box and packing materials first and use the smallest box possible. Please note, a special laptop box is NOT needed for this shipment, simply any brown box with some packing materials will suffice. Mailing instructions will be provided in the email containing your shipping label.

Q: Where (and how) are my electronics recycled?

A: Whenever possible, we will find new uses for the electronics we receive. If that’s not an option due to condition or age, we responsibly process and disassemble the devices through the Certified e-Stewards and/or R2 recycler that services your location.

Q: How do you keep my data secure?

A: Your data security is a primary concern for us. Your box will be received by a certified, secure recycling facility. Our exclusively e-Stewards and R2 Certified reuse and recycling service providers have passed extensive and ongoing third-party auditing to ensure that their data destruction processes are effective and secure.

Q: How is my data destroyed?

A: Data sanitization methods including software overwrites allow for the reuse of some hard drive(s). Third-party auditing ensures our processes are secure and effective. Drives that are unsuitable for reuse will be physically destroyed via shredding.
